About ICdetection

ICdetection is an open-source tool for auditing the cellular environment from Android, without root.

It shows what Android's public telephony APIs report (cell identity, MCC, MNC, TAC, PCI, ARFCN, signal and Timing Advance when available) and combines conservative heuristics to flag anomalous behaviour. Alerts need temporal confirmation to reduce false positives.

It does not guarantee IMSI-catcher detection: Android apps cannot inspect RRC or NAS traffic or the modem. An alert is an anomaly worth reviewing, not proof of surveillance.

Works without Internet: no Internet permission, no ads, analytics or trackers. History stays on the device unless you export it.

Permissions:
• Location: Android requires it for cell information; also used for geographic checks.
• Phone state: reads the network and visible cells.
• Network state: only to know if data uses Wi-Fi or mobile data.
• Foreground service, notifications and wake lock: keep monitoring running and visible.
• Run at startup: only for the optional reminder after a reboot (off by default).

Results depend on the phone, modem, firmware and Android version. Requires Android 12 or later.

Release notes Fewer false alarms caused by the phone's modem (#51). Installs over any 3.1.x and keeps its data.

Dataset cut: H1, H15 and multi-signal episodes. Rows from 3.1.8 on (AppVersion) are not comparable with earlier rows for those rules. Database schema and export formats are unchanged; no reinstall is needed.

Fixed
• H15 (RF identity): a PCI that is a secondary carrier of the same reading on the same channel (carrier aggregation on one frequency), or that the modem also gives to another sector of the same base station, no longer counts as a cell alternating identities. N/A as H15(agregacion) or H15(emparejamiento_modem). Two PCIs that really alternate still fail.
• H1 (isolated cell): evaluated only once the app has seen that the modem reports neighbours at all. Some modems never do; there H1 is N/A (H1(sin_vecinas_modem)), and also while it is not yet known (H1(vecinas_sin_verificar)).
• Multi-signal episodes: they now need a strong rule other than H15 (H1 and H4 are weak) and an anomaly confidence of at least 5 % to start. H1 + H15 alone no longer reach 3/3.

Changed
• The alarm says what it is, a persisting symptom: the notification reads *Repeated warning (3/3): network anomaly*, the main screen *PERSISTENT ANOMALY (3/3)* and the incident state *PERSISTENT*.
