Release notes canact 0.12.3

A hash inside a Python string no longer hides the rest of the function. A model that errors before the context ladder answers is no longer scored as if it forgot the facts.

Highlights

The code-syntax probe keeps a real return when a # sits inside quotes. Context faithfulness says the probe failed when no ladder rung got a reply.

Bug fixes
• A # inside a Python string hid the rest of the function. The code-syntax probe treated that hash as a comment, so a later return could score as missing, or an unmatched parenthesis inside the quote could disappear and leave a Strong score. A hash inside a quote is kept. A hash outside a string is still a comment (#387).
• A model that cannot chat was scored as recalling 0 of 3 context facts. When every ladder request failed, for example with does not support chat, and no rung passed, context faithfulness said 0/3 ladder facts recalled and looked completed. That row is now Probe failed, the same as the other probes. A reply that misses the facts is still a real score. An error after a passing rung keeps that rung (#388).

Upgrading

bash
cargo install canact --locked --features cli

A library pin of version = "0.12" includes 0.12.3. An exact pin of 0.12.2 does not.

Rust call sites written for 0.12.2 still compile. No public struct or enum fields were added. MSRV is still Rust 1.95.

Builds that enable openai use wiremux and wiremux-auth 0.11.9. The lock uses tokio 1.54.1, not yanked tokio 1.54.0, and ctutils 0.4.5 (#385).
