About Wiki-Say-It!
Wiki-Say-It! lets you record pronunciations of words, names, and phrases in your language and contribute them to Wikimedia Commons, linking each recording from the matching Wikidata item or lexeme form. It brings the flow of the browser-based Lingua Libre to your phone.
How it works
• Sign in with your Wikimedia account (OAuth — the app never sees your password) and set up a speaker profile with the languages you speak, your proficiency, and your dialect.
• Build a list of things to record: paste your own words (matched to Wikidata items or lexemes), run a Wikidata SPARQL query, or pull the pages of a Wikipedia category and its subcategories.
• The app skips entries that already have a pronunciation recording, so you only record what's missing.
• Record the list one entry at a time. Auto mode detects when you start and stop speaking and trims silence and background noise automatically.
• Review every take, re-record the ones you don't like, and skip the ones you'd rather not contribute.
• Contribute: recordings are encoded as Ogg Vorbis, uploaded to Commons under CC0, and added to Wikidata as "pronunciation audio" (P443) statements.
Also
• Multiple speaker profiles on one device
• Recording statistics by month and year
• Right-to-left interface support; translations welcome via translatewiki.net
Wiki-Say-It! is free and open-source software (Apache-2.0), written by a volunteer. It has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking; the only network connections it makes are to Wikimedia sites.
