About RapidRAW

RapidRAW is a modern, high-performance alternative to Adobe Lightroom®. It delivers a simple, beautiful editing experience in a lightweight package (under 20MB) for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

I started developing this project as a personal challenge when I was 18. My goal was to create a high-performance tool for my own photography workflow while deepening my understanding of React, WGSL and Rust, with the support from Google Gemini.

Release notes This release is the result of a one-week sprint focused on making the core of RapidRAW faster and lighter on RAM. I rewrote large parts of the image pipeline, so thumbnails, previews, exports and batch actions are now much faster and use a lot less memory. On top of that, this update brings a full Immich integration with edits synced across all your computers, GPU acceleration for AI models, smart AI masks that adapt to every photo, new sky and foreground models, AI Text and Face masks, a rewritten dehaze and noise reduction, more accurate RAW colors and a new job queue.

New Features

Performance Improvements & Lower RAM Usage

This release is all about speed. I went through the whole app to find out where time and memory were wasted and rewrote large parts of the image pipeline:
• Faster Library: Thumbnails load much faster and scrolling through big folders feels smoother.
• Faster Editing: Previews update quicker while moving sliders, and preset previews render much faster.
• Faster Exports: Exports finish noticeably faster and use less RAM. Two new Advanced settings let you choose how many images are exported at the same time and how much free RAM a batch export may use.
• Faster Batch Actions: Pasting adjustments, resetting and auto lens correction across many images are now much quicker.
• Optimized GPU Shaders: The shaders were optimized and the histogram and scopes now run on a zero-copy pipeline, so they update without slowing down the editor.
• Smarter Decoding: Images that are already decoded are reused, for example in the culling view, the collage tool and tethering.
• Lower Memory Usage: RAM usage was reduced across the whole app, from the preview pipeline, masks and AI denoise to the UI itself.

Immich Integration

RapidRAW can now connect directly to your Immich server. A new Immich section in the library lets you browse your albums and timeline, and edit any photo just like a local file. Images show Immich's preview as a thumbnail and the original…
