About MinkLauncher OpenSource

MinkLauncher OpenSource is a focused Android home-screen launcher and keyboard-first assistant designed around fast input and low visual noise.

The responsive Home panel combines MinkSpace Mini-Apps with eight configurable icon shortcuts. Swipe vertically between To-dos, Calculator, selected Media, and Android’s active Music session. To-dos stay enabled, while other mini-apps can be enabled and arranged in Settings. Swipe horizontally inside a mini-app to move through its own pages.

Home slots and the compact drawer can open apps or actions published by apps, while every personal app remains one keyboard search away. Work Apps use a separate badged drawer. Android 15 Private Space apps stay in their own locked container outside regular search, shortcuts, and See All; supported device-maker private areas can be opened through an optional gateway without exposing their contained apps to MinkLauncher.

Appearance settings can use Mink’s monochrome treatment, original app icons, or an installed Nova/ADW-compatible icon pack. Icon-pack mappings and previews are read locally, and apps not covered by the selected pack retain their original icon.

On a physical-keyboard phone, just start typing from Home. The already-focused Magic Box appears with the first character preserved; no tap is required. It can also open over another app when MinkLauncher OpenSource is selected as Android’s assistant.

Magic Box commands:

• @ — choose a contact, then send carrier SMS or hand the message to an integrated messaging app
• # — choose a contact, confirm, then call or choose a calling provider
• - — add an internal to-do
• / — create a multiline note through an installed notes app
• + — create a calendar event
• ? — find and immediately launch an installed app
• * — hand a multiline prompt to the selected AI provider
• Plain text — search local filenames, open a web search, or hand the query to a selected compatible AI app

On Android 11 or newer, App Bubbles (Beta) can try to open a personal app in Android’s notification bubble stack. Long-press a Magic Box app result for one launch or choose automatic apps in Settings. Compatibility is controlled by Android and the target app, so unsupported apps may open normally instead.

To-dos can be added, checked, edited, confirmed before deletion, and reordered by drag. Local file results are grouped into photos, videos, documents, and audio, with thumbnails where Android provides them. Document search uses only folders you explicitly select through Android's system folder picker.

Optional spaces remain one swipe away:

• Conversations groups active Android message and email notifications into compact threads. Inline reply is offered only when the originating app supplies Android’s reply action, and content remains transient in memory.
• Mink’s Day measures foreground time and launch counts for the Android Social-category apps or custom apps the user chooses to include. Set a collective limit from 0 to 23 whole hours, then pause those apps in MinkLauncher all the time, only after the limit, or never. Paused apps are hidden from Magic Box and app drawers while shortcut tiles remain visible with a reminder. This is a launcher barrier, not a system app suspension or parental-control feature. Other apps never enter Mink’s Day totals.
• Widgets hosts up to eight Android widgets with grouped provider previews, correct responsive sizing, reordering, and removal.

MinkSpace details:

• Calculator accepts touch or physical-keyboard input and keeps a clearable local history
• Media Lab uses Android’s picker for specific images, GIFs, and videos; it stores references rather than copying or uploading the original files
• Music uses optional Notification access to read Android’s active media session and sends only controls advertised by the provider; it does not record audio or keep listening history

When another app requests Add to Home screen, MinkLauncher can place its shortcut in a Home slot or Top 8. Choose

Release info Update on Oct 28, 2026
Release notes Open 3.1.1 improves visual consistency, language handling, and access to Android settings without changing the OpenSource product identity.
• Mink and system palettes: Appearance settings now let you choose the intentional Mink color palette or Android's dynamic system colors on Android 12 and newer. The choice is included in backups, while older backups continue to import with Mink as the safe default.
• Geist typography: Mink's default interface typeface is now Geist, with a matching monospace family and bundled open-source license information.
• Consistent app surfaces: Home, Settings, the app drawer, dialogs, and secondary activities now share the same color and typography foundation.
• Reliable language switching: The launcher entry point is separated from the Home activity so changing the app language no longer crashes the launcher. Indonesian resources now use Android's supported in qualifier and load correctly.
• System Settings shortcut: Settings > More now includes a direct link to Android's system settings.
• OpenSource identity preserved: User-facing OpenSource naming remains unchanged while the internal theme architecture is normalized for future development.

No new permissions, network services, or data collection are introduced in this release. Backup schema version 3 remains unchanged and compatible with existing backups.
