About Swifty Notes

Swifty Notes is a native GTK/libadwaita Markdown notes application for Linux written in Swift.

The desktop app is the primary experience: write, organize, and preview Markdown notes with native GTK widgets, autosave, remembered workspace state, and adjustable editor settings such as font size, wrapping, indentation, and appearance.

The included CLI works on the same file-backed notes so shell scripts, automation, and AI agents can safely inspect or update notes without a separate database or background service.

• Create, rename, duplicate, export, and delete Markdown notes.

• Autosave edits, remember workspace state, and keep note-local image assets together with each note.

• Adjust editor font size and other writing preferences to fit different screens and workflows.

• Choose where notes are stored, including a cloud-synced folder, so the same plain files can stay in sync across devices.

• Import images with drag and drop and render Markdown with a native GTK preview instead of a web view.

• Use the CLI for JSON-friendly note automation from scripts, shell pipelines, and AI agents.

• Switch the interface language between the system default and any language the build ships, without restarting the app.

Release info Update on Oct 30, 2026
Release notes The math release. LaTeX formulas render natively in the preview -- no WebKit, no JavaScript -- and in titles, the outline and the breadcrumb. Around it: preview zoom and line spacing, a default view for files opened from outside, lists that continue on Enter, and formatting shortcuts. Linux packages build again on Swift 6.4.

Features
o LaTeX math (#37, #62) -- $...$ inline and $$...$$ or a math fence as a centred display block, drawn by RaTeX 0.1.15 (Rust, MIT; KaTeX fonts under the OFL) through a C bridge in its own MathEngine target. Inline formulas are Pango shapes inside the existing labels: they sit on the baseline, wrap like words, follow the text colour and the zoom, copy as $tex$ and read as TeX to screen readers. align*, matrices, cases, \ce{}, \tag, \color and \newcommand work; a formula that does not parse shows its source.
o Formulas outside the preview -- note titles and headings in the sidebar, outline, breadcrumb, filtered rows and command palette draw them too, parsed on a shared time budget so a long list never stalls the window.
o Preview zoom and line spacing (#36) -- Ctrl+scroll zooms in 10 % steps from 50 % to 200 %; Settings -> Preview gains *Preview zoom* and *Line spacing* (80-200 %), applied live in every window. Images keep their size, code blocks their own spacing.
o The view opened files start in (#35) -- Settings -> Editor -> *Opened files start in*: Editor, Split or Preview. Split stays the default; windows already open are left alone.
o Lists, quotes and tables continue on Enter (#34) -- bullets keep marker and indent, ordered items count up, checked tasks continue unchecked, quotes continue with > , a table row gets an empty sibling. Enter on an empty item ends it; Shift+Enter stays inside the item.
o Formatting shortcuts (#33) -- Ctrl+B bold, Ctrl+I italic, Ctrl+K link, Ctrl+E code, Ctrl+Shift+Q quote, Ctrl+Shift+L bulleted list, Ctrl+Shift+O numbered list, in the library and in opened files. All letters on purpose: GTK never fires a +digit...
