About LatentJam
LatentJam is a music player for the files on your phone that understands what your library sounds like. A small neural model runs on the device and listens to your tracks in the background, so SMART mode can queue the next song from your own collection. There is no account, no catalogue and no network permission: nothing about your listening leaves the phone.
• SMART queue: the next track picked from your library by sound, by its tags and by what a compact offline pack knows about 350,000 artists — their language, era and style. The queue avoids big jumps in energy.
• For You: rows for this time of day, the phase you are in, one wildcard, and a sonic journey across the library.
• Search that ranks like you expect: title, artist, album and genre first, then the lyrics in your files, then meaning, in any of twenty languages. A year or decade in the query ("80s", "1985") keeps results to those years.
• A map of your library: clusters are your genres as the model hears them.
• A player built for touch: the cover flips to the track's facts, holds for actions and swipes between tracks; a live seek bar with fine scrubbing and the lyric line under the handle; pause and resume fade instead of cutting.
• Lyrics: timed lyrics follow the song, and a tap on a line seeks there.
• Every tag the file carries: all genres, credited artists and the original release year, read from FLAC, Opus and mp3. Albums play in disc and track order, and a collaboration is listed under every artist it names.
• A real player underneath: playlists with M3U import and export and independent custom and recently added track orders, album, artist, genre and folder browsing behind an A–Z rail, with folders also as a tree, crossfade and volume normalization, a duplicate finder that says which copy to keep, statistics, tag editing, local backup and restore.
• On the home screen and in the car: three widgets, a Quick Settings tile and an Android Auto browse tree.
• Your pages, your order: show, hide and reorder the browsing pages, and choose the one it opens on.
• 18 languages, including Russian, Romanian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
SMART gets good once a chunk of your library has been analysed in the background; leaving the phone charging overnight speeds that up.

| Release notes | Your Last.fm history imported straight from a CSV file, sorting by date added and date modified, and SMART queues that fit better: cleaner, with artist names merged and every genre and language of a track counted. Crossfade no longer restarts the next song. Still fully on-device: no account, no catalogue, no network. New o Import your Last.fm history from a CSV file, for example one made with last.fm-to-csv (#29). One "Choose a file..." button takes a ListenBrainz export or a Last.fm CSV (Settings -> Local backup -> Import listening history). o ? Sort by date added or date modified, newest or oldest first, in Tracks and in Folders (#31). The sort controls are labelled for TalkBack and announce the chosen order and direction. o Open an M3U playlist from a file manager and LatentJam offers to import it. SMART o Fewer spoken-word clips, fragments and novelty tracks dropped into a queue. o Names of one artist written differently count as one artist, and untagged "Unknown" tracks are no longer repeated. o Every genre and every language of a track counts, not just the first one. Queues from libraries with detailed multi-genre tags stay in their genre much better. o Don't recommend artist now also catches the artist in features and duets. Fixed o Crossfade: the next song no longer starts over after the overlap. o Adding a song from the queue to a playlist no longer makes the queue flicker. o The quick-settings tile works when the app is closed (#29). o The lock-screen player asks for the permission it needs instead of silently not showing (#29). o The widget keeps its rounded corners after a phone restart. o Analysis of large libraries is faster and steadier. o Many smaller fixes. ? iOS, first start after the update: files you imported into the app may be analysed once again. Your history, playlists and settings stay. Install (Android) Download LatentJam-v0.9.4-arm64.apk (about 37 MB). It's right for virtually every phone from the last decade, so if unsure, pick this... |
