Query toolbar

Provides controls to specify criteria for querying the schedule.

You can leave a combo box on this toolbar empty. In this case the corresponding criteria will be ignored when querying the schedule.

To display the menu for a combo box, press DOWN or ALT‑DOWN when the combo box has keyboard focus. To select an item from the menu, press ENTER. To hide the menu, press ESCAPE or ALT‑UP.

If you hold the CTRL key pressed when selecting an item from the menu, either with mouse or by pressing the ENTER key, then the selected item will be appended to the text already present in the combo box field, rather than replacing that text. This is useful when you want to assemble a combined criterion from several menu items.

If the text in a combo box, whether editable or not, is too long to be fully displayed, then rest the mouse pointer over the combo box, or move focus to the combo box and press CTRL‑F1. The combo box text will be displayed in the tool tip.

Listed below are groups of the available query criteria:

Station
Program
Language
Days
Time
Frequency
Signal
Target
Location

Station

Station combo box

Provides a place to specify the station name. You can separate several names with commas: BBC, RFI, DW, RAI, VOR.

A station will match the query if its name text equals to or contains one of the specified names as a substring. Character matching is not case‐sensitive.

Program

Program criteria combo box

Provides a means to select a program‐related criterion: program name or format.

Program text combo box

Provides a place to specify query text for the program‐related criteria. You can separate several text fragments with commas.

A program will match the query if the text of its name or format, respectively, equals to or contains one of the specified text fragments as a substring. Character matching is not case‐sensitive.

Note that program criteria are applicable only when querying a programming schedule. In this way, the program format criterion is not applied to the format attributes of broadcasts in a broadcasting schedule.

Language

Language combo box

Provides a place to specify the broadcast language. You can separate several languages with commas: English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Turkish.

A broadcast or a program will match the query if its language text equals to or contains one of the specified languages as a substring. Character matching is not case‐sensitive.

Days

Days combo box

Provides a place to specify the broadcast days. This combo box displays the days of week as rectangles, with the days that should be used when querying the schedule displayed as filled rectangles.

You can enter a days value either with the mouse pointer, or using the keyboard. If you click a day bar in the combo box, the state of the day bar will change from filled to empty, or revert from empty to filled. You can also change the state of a day bar by pressing SPACE when the day bar has focus, and move the focus from one day bar to another using the arrow keys LEFT and RIGHT, as well as the keys HOME and END.

You can also select, from the combo box menu, the predefined values for the entire week, for the weekdays, for the weekend, and for each particular day of the week.

A broadcast or a program will match the query if its days overlap with the days specified in this combo box. The days of a broadcast or of a program that are taken into account when matching, are either the days in the local time zone, or the days in the UTC time zone, according to the active time display mode.

Set the display style for the days of week

Time

Time combo box

Provides a place to specify the broadcast and program time. You can enter the time using one of the following formats: 1, 18, 1:00, 18:00.

You can specify a range with the hyphen (minus) character, and separate several single values and ranges with commas.

You can also select, from the combo box menu, the predefined values Now, This hour, Previous hour, and Next hour, so that the current time values will be used.

As an example, you can specify the time as Now, Next hour, 15:31, 21-3:00.

A broadcast or a program will match the query if its time matches any of the single times or ranges specified in this combo box. The time of a broadcast or of a program, that is taken into account when matching, is either the time in the local time zone, or the time in the UTC time zone, according to the active time display mode.

Set the local time or the UTC time display mode

Frequency

Frequency combo box

Provides a place to specify the broadcast frequency. You can enter a frequency using the following format: 10,000.0. You can also use a locale‐specific format, depending on the current interface language of Radio Explorer. Locale‐specific formats differ by the thousands separator character, and by the decimal point character.

You can specify a range with the hyphen (minus) character, and separate several frequencies and ranges with semicolons.

You can also select, from the combo box menu, these predefined ranges:

StartEnd
Long waves
LW 153 279
Medium waves
MW 531 1,700
Short waves
SW 2,300 26,100
SW1 2,300 7,450
SW2 9,400 26,100
120m 2,300 2,495
90m 3,200 3,400
75m 3,900 4,000
60m 4,750 5,060
49m 5,900 6,200
41m 7,200 7,450
31m 9,400 9,900
25m 11,600 12,100
22m 13,570 13,870
19m 15,100 15,800
16m 17,480 17,900
15m 18,900 19,020
13m 21,450 21,850
11m 25,670 26,100

For example, you can specify the frequency as LW; MW; 5,000; 10,000-20,000.

A broadcast will match the query if its frequency differs from any frequency specified in this combo box not more than specified by the frequency spread slider.

Frequency spread slider
Provides a means to specify an acceptable deviation of the broadcast frequency from the frequencies specified in the Frequency combo box.

Signal

Signal criteria combo box

Provides a means to select a signal‐related criterion: signal power, azimuth, or modulation.

Signal text combo box

Provides a place to specify query value or text for the signal‐related criteria.

You can enter a power value using the following format: 0.5, 50.0. You can also use a locale‐specific format, depending on the current interface language of Radio Explorer. Locale‐specific formats differ by the thousands separator character and by the decimal point character.

You can enter an azimuth value using the following format: 180°, where the degree character is optional.

You can enter a modulation value as a text fragment.

You can specify a range for power and azimuth values with the hyphen (minus) character, and separate several power or azimuth values with semicolons. You can separate several modulation text fragments with commas. For example, you can specify the power as 0.5, 50.0-500.0, the azimuth as 0°, 90°-180°, and the modulation as U, L, SSB, DRM.

A broadcast will match the query if its signal power or azimuth equals any power or azimuth, respectively, specified in this combo box, or if the text of its modulation equals to or contains one of the specified modulation text fragments as a substring. Character matching is not case‐sensitive.

Target

Target criteria combo box

Provides a means to select a target‐related criterion: target area or CIRAF zone.

Target text combo box

Provides a place to specify query text or value for the target‐related criteria.

You can enter the target area as a text fragment and separate several text fragments with commas. For example, you can specify the target area as Eu, Italy.

You can specify a zone range with the hyphen (minus) character, and separate several zones and ranges with commas. For example, you can specify target zones as 18-19, 29-31.

You can also select the predefined Home value from the combo box menu, so that the values that you entered in the Options dialog box, on the User Information tab, will be used.

A broadcast will match the query if the text of its target area equals to or contains one of the specified target area text fragments as a substring. Character matching is not case‐sensitive. A broadcast will also match the query if its target CIRAF zones overlap with the specified zones.
